Baby What Do You Want Me To Do

Written by Jimmy Reed

Song sample

This song is very much a blues standard although the song first caught my ear when I first watched Elvis' 68 Comeback Special some 15 years ago. It was the Elvis version of the song that I decided to use as my template, fleshing out the stripped down Elvis 'unplugged' version with electric guitar, bass and drums.

(Above) The 'Million Dollar Quartet' featuring Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash and......Mark Wright!?!?

I wanted to start off with something that was very simple to play; something we could have a bit of fun with and get used to playing together as a band unit. It's hard to go to wrong with a song like this and we only cut about 3 or 4 takes of the song in total once we had the final arrangement. Rather than stick to the same vocal level throughout the song I decided to raise my voice an octave for the final verse.
